Family Trees

Hadley's dad came in to talk about family trees today. He showed us two from his family that date back over 200 years! We found out that Hadley has relatives that were some of the first people to explore California. The students then started to make their own family trees.

Academic Highlights!

Here's what we've been working on recently:
-Comprehension skills--we were focusing on making connections while we read. We have now moved on to answering specific comprehension questions and summarizing stories.
-Writing--we read many versions of The Gingerbread Man (including The Gingerbread Pirates and The Gingerbread Superhero) and the students each wrote their own version. Keep an eye out for these great pieces of writing to come home soon!
-Phonics/Spelling--we have been looking at rules for adding endings (-s, -ed, -ing) to words
-Math--we have studied the main types of story problems. The students practiced solving each type, shared their strategies with their classmates, and wrote their own story problems. These will be in a book coming home soon also!

Here's a peek at what's coming up:
-Practicing taking notes with non-fiction books
-Creating math board games
-Making a heritage "quilt" with the countries from each student's ancestry
